U2 Elevation Tour Leg 1 US 2001

After the release of "All that you can't leave behind" at the end of 2000, U2 will be on tour again on March 2001.

Back on the road means this time also back to basics and the band decides to play only indoors (with a very few exceptions in Europe) using a very simple stage and show concept.







This simplicity will also affect the itinerary books design. This first leg book comes in a completely red front cover with the U2 Elevation case logo printed on black. A white text reads "Elevation tour itinerary first leg".

I have seen this book in 2 different kinds of spiral bounds. My bet is that the 2 of them are original as they were coming from a very reliable source.

This book covers from Miami set construction and rehearsals (March 4th to 22nd'01) to June 7th when the band played a 2nd show at the Forum in Copenhagen (Denmark).

Apart from the daily information the book lists all the staff, companies involved, flight and hotel schedules, tags list,....

Even though the book confirms the band stayed at Delano hotel in Miami for the first days of the tour, Bono and Edge were actually staying at a rented house while Larry and Adam where the only band members at the hotel.

Right after the dress rehearsal at Miami Arena on March 22nd, the crew worked hard to move the stage and the rest of the stuff to Fort Lauderdale's National Car Rental Center where the tour started on March 24th.

After the last of 4 shows in Chicago on May 16th Bono flew back to Dublin to be at home when his 4th son John Abraham was born on May 21st . Next show was not scheduled until May 24th.

On Saturday 23th, the day after the final show in New York the band flew back to Europe for a few days off in Nice before meeting again in Copenhagen on July 5th to rehearse for the european leg.

An autographed copy of this book was auctioned on Ebay in 2012 reaching a final price of 500 dollars .It was signed by Bono, The Edge and Adam Clayton.

The Edge signed my copy of this book in Barcelona on October 11th 2015.

U2 Elevation Tour Leg 2 Europe 2001

On July 2001 Elevation tour reaches Europe for a series of 33 shows all around the "old continent".

As the one I showed for the US, this leg's itinerary is also very simple in terms of design . Red cover with big U2 sign and a white "U2 Itinerary Europe" text together with a tiny switcase logo.

According to the book the three final shows on this leg (2 in Glasgow plus a 2nd concert at Slane Castle) were still TBA (To be announced).

U2 travel from their holiday houses to Copenhagen on July 6th, the same day of the european opening show.

Berlin, Torino and Slane Castle shows were the only outdoor nights of this tour. Some parts of the stage (mainly the heart) were modified in order to fit this new kind of venues.

Nice and London were the 2 cities where the band spent more time on this european leg.

U2 had planned to fly on helicopter for a rehearsal at Slane Castle on Friday August 24th but I'm not sure if it ever really happened.

On September 6th, once the tour was over,  MTV Video Music Awards were held in NY so what they call Promotional Team flew to the US again to attend the awards gala. The band was included in that Team and they performed playing an Elevation/Stuck in a Moment meddley. After that , they all were officially on holidays.

This book was signed by Bono and Adam Clayton in Barcelona in October 2015 when U2 were in the city for the i+e tour.

U2 Elevation Tour Leg 3 US 2001

The third and final Elevation tour leg will travel the US up and down once again. This is what they call "US Return Leg" as we can see on the cover of this itinerary book.

A very simple red cover includes also one picture per each U2 member in an image that recalls the 4 screens used on the tour.

I have found two different versions of this book: One with laminated cover...the other with unlaminated cover. Both come from very reliable sources so my bet is that the 2 versions are original.



According to the itinerary book, tour should end at Los Angeles Staples Center on November 19th. The truth is that 8 more shows were added after the book had been printed. The last Elevation tour gig was finally in Miami on December 2nd.

Group and management arrived in the U.S. on October 7th and they were rehearsing on the 8th and 9th before opening the tour on the 10th.

This first show was broadcasted on internet.

This leg was right after September 11th but U2 decided to go ahead with their tour plans instead of cancelling their gigs. The result was a leg full of emotions and amazing feelings. The three Madison Square Garden shows were very special and plenty FDNY and NYPD tributes were held.

While in Los Angeles they used 3 different hotels.

A US map is included in the book.

Bono and Adam Clayton signed this book for me when the i+e tour visited Barcelona in October 2015.

U2 Elevation Tour Leg 3 US 2001 ELEVATION EXTENSION

As mentioned on the previous entry, once the itinerary book for the 3rd leg of the Elevation tour was printed, 8 new dates were added at the end of this final leg. With two more weeks on the road a new book was issued for both management and crew.

So if according to the previous book the tour was ending on November 19th in Los Angeles, this new book is including new concerts from November 20th to December 2nd in Sacramento, Phoenix, Dallas, Kansas City, St. Louis, Atlanta, Tampa and Miami. 

With only 8 concerts and covering about 2 weeks only this book has only got 21 pages plus cover and back cover and does not contain general information about the tour crew, companies involved on it and so. The information on this itinerary is basically focused on the new dates and the schedule with hotels, timings and flights.

There are two versions of this book with one being a pocket version of the other one. Both contain the same information with the only difference being the size of the books. 

We have to think this is the 4th and final book for the Elevation tour
