360º Crew Dollar Bils

At the end of the final 360º leg in Moncton a big party was held for the band, management and crew members. It was for that party that the management printed out dollar bills (Live Nation notes) with the band, management and crew member faces on them.

On one side of the bills we can find the mentioned picture, together with Paul mcGuinness and Arthur Foguel signatures. Band bills were worth 20 dollars while Paul mcGuinness and Arthur Fogel bills were worth 10 dollars. Crew bills were only worth 1 dollar.

On the other side, The Claw under the "In U2 we trust" sentence.

As I said Crew members bills were also printed. Probably the most hard working guys and their bills are only worth 1 dollar !!

This is the front of some "famous" crew members Dollar bills. I'm showing the bills printed with the face of Dennis Sheenan (Tour Manager), Rocco Reedy (Stage Manager), Dallas Schoo (Edge's Guitar Tech) and Phil Docherty (Bono's Guitar Tech) :

U2 360º Tour Leg 3 Europe 2010 CREW Itinerary

As I mentioned on the entries about the 360º US Leg 2, we should expect two different itineraries were printed when the tour reached Europe on summer 2010.

But...the truth is that I never saw the band/management itinerary and the only one that I'm sure was issued is the one that was prepared and printed for the crew only.

No big differences if we compare this one to the one used by the crew during the Leg 2 of the 360º tour.
Again a colorful cover with the tour logo and the "Europe 2010 Crew Itinerary" text and a very similar structure in terms of information and content.

Again Blue, Red and Green Steel groups will travel around Europe in order to built the stage and have everything ready for the band.

What I'm showing below are the pages related to the 2 shows U2 played in Spain on this new european leg. This time the chosen cities where San Sebastian and Seville.

It seems this is the last U2 itinerary book printed by tour management. For the rest of the tour, U2 staff will get all the information on a PDF.

U2 360º Tour Leg 2 US 2009 CREW Itinerary

As I mentioned on the 360º US 2nd Leg Itineray book entry, there was a second itinerary book for this leg. Apart from the one printed for the band and their management, a different book was specifically printed for the crew. So the band and the management people were using one and the rest of the crew working on the tour were handed copies of this white one I'm talking about and I'm showing on the pictures.

This book has no information related to the band itself but plenty of information related to the crew, their travel plans, hotels and so. I think this is a way to protect the band information and keep it for a very few people only.

So the info contained on this book is probably not as interesting as the one on the band itinerary but it is still nice to have a look in order to understand how a massive tour like the 360º works.

Apart from general info related to the tour as a calendar, personnel list, companies involved on the leg the most interesting thing we notice is that the crew is divided in 3 big groups called Blue, Red and Green Steel. Every "day page" of the itinerary details all the info related to hotels, travels and everything for every one of those three groups.

So while Green Steel group was already working on September 2nd (Traveling to Chicago), Red Steel group didn't travel to Toronto until September 9th and the final group called Blue Steel stayed at home until the 12th when they flew to Boston.

All in all a lot of info that as I said is helpful to understand how life on the road is for the nearly 300 people involved on this tour.

U2 360º Tour Leg 6 South America 2011

Right after 360º tour visits South Africa, next leg of the tour will travel across South America, visiting Chile, Argentina and Brazil. This means 3 countries, 3 cities only but a total of 7 shows.

This will be 3rd appearance ever in Chile with just one show at the same venue U2 visited with Popmart and Vertigo tours.

About Argentina, U2 will be visiting La Plata for the first time and will be offering 3 shows on March 30th and April 2nd and 3rd.

And last but not least, Brazil. Sao Paulo will see three 360º shows at Morumbi Stadium, same venue used when Popmart and Vertigo tours "came to town".

So, 7 shows from March 25th to April 3rd will complete this South American leg.

A new itinerary should be pressed in order to cover these shows but as far as I know PDFs are sent out to the crew with all the info they need to know for the tour....so I'm not sure wether the itinerary was ever printed or not.

Anyway, if this itinerary exists and I'm able to get a copy, I'll update this entry with some information.

Zooropa '93 Stage Construction Book

This stage drawings book was key for the design and construction of the stage for U2's Zooropa performances around the world. The book is in fact part of the work to manufacture all the components of this stage that was used around Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Japan.

The previous photo is of the front and the one below is just a close-up photo of the text on the front page.

This rare ring bound book is 230 x 280 mm so it's quite big compared with the itinerary books. UPFRONT, Inc. was the company in charge of this project and all the information included on this book was part of their work.

The book has got 40 pages that basically include detailed drawings of every single section of the stage. These are technical drawings at different scales (1:400, 1:200, 1:300,...). We can find different drawings for the full stage Plan View, the right side, the left side, the B Stage, ....

Interesting details are shown on these pages such as the height of the stage components (24 meters for the towers, 17.5 meters for the rest of the stage), the screens size and other stuff.

Sometimes very technical and even difficult to understand but still very interesting for a non expert like me.

LIVE 8 Rider & Itinerary

I didn't really know how to define this documents so I decided to use the "Rider & Itinerary" terms. This is a pack of Memorabilia related to the LIVE 8 show held at London Hyde Park on July 2nd 2005.

As you all might know U2 opened the show playing "Sargent Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band" with Sir Paul McCartney. After that they played a set of three U2 songs.

What I'm showing next is some material I got and where you will find the rehearsing/soundcheck schedule, the running order for the concert, the stage plan for U2 and other interesting stuff related to how this masive concert was organised.

About the stage, every band designed a little plan in order to inform the band member's distribution and where all the instruments, monitors, mixers and any other gear should be placed. As you know Edge is always on the right hand side of the stage while Adam prefers the left hand side. In this case, Terry Lawless and his keyboards where also on the stage and not under the stage and we could even see him very close to Larry Mullen Jr during the show broadcast on TV.

According to the event schedule, U2 had planned a soundcheck from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. on the morning of the showday right after Dido had finished her rehearsal.

As I said before, the show opener was a U2 and Paul McCartney duet and they had to be on stage at 2 p.m. as we can see on the running order sheet. Full set was expected to last a total of 25 minutes.

There was also a document containing all the information per artist in terms of songs they will play, performance duration and any other thing that everybody working on the show should be aware. In the U2 case, it's curious to read the sentence "Release doves on last track". If you saw the show, you will remember the doves flying out during "Beautiful Day".

Zooropa'93 Phone Contact Book

This is a new kind of book I recently discovered. In fact, the only two copies I've ever seen are exactly the same and belong to the Zooropa'93 tour so I don't know if this is a kind of book that U2 management has been printing tour after tour or it was only issued when the Zooropa tour did hit the road back in 1993.

It was issued to tour principals (band, family members, managers, producers, etc.) so a very limited number of copies might be around.

This 11-page book measures 8 3/8" x 5 7/8" and is spiral-bound, with clear cover.

Under a transparent plastic cover, the first page of the book features a cartoon of the band playing on a stage with the Egypt pyramids and a text that reads: "IF THESE GUYS HAD BEEN AROUND WHEN THE PYRAMIDS WERE BEING BUILT - THEY WOULD HAVE TAKEN THEM ON TOUR."

Inside, it lists the name of all of the tour members (including the band members), their contact address, and their contact phone numbers. In my photos, I have covered all contact details in order to respect band members and rest of the staff privacy.

Information regarding a total of 241 contacts can be found on this book. Well known names such as Paul Oakenfold, Stuart Morgan, Joe O'Herlihy, Sam O'Sullivan, Dallas Schoo, Dennis Sheehan, Morleig Steinberg are in the list.

Local Itineraries/Concert Guides

If you have been following this blog over the last months you might have seen that U2 management is usually printing an itinerary book to cover every single leg of the tour.

In addition, tour riders are issued in order to compile all the requirements to cover when a U2 show is planned.

This time I'll write about Local Itineraries. This kind of itinerary book is issued to cover a part of the leg (i.e. UK Leg) or even just a show.

These books are issued by local promoters in order to help out all those people involved in stage construction and any other kind of operation related to the show/shows.

This means that the local books are basically not including information directly related to the band members. Sometimes the hotel where they stay is named on the book but the info is mainly about useful phone numbers and contact persons, sometimes a list of recommended restaurants, bars, pubs, night life, doctor, hair dressers, laundry, air lines, international dialing codes, etc.

Detailed maps are also included with information about where the stage and management areas, catering and others should be located in each stadium.

As I was saying, they might also contain information related to promoter, local crew, band and crew hotels, time schedule for the stage construction and show, etc.

Another curious detail on these kind of books is the size of them. Some of them have the same size of a tour itinerary but some of them are really tiny, just 15x10 cms like the ones from Zooropa'93 in Oslo or ZOO TV in Stockholm (see pictures below). The one that I'm showing from The Joshua Tree Tour was 21x15 cms.

U2 360º Tour Leg 5 South Africa 2011

Just a few days after the end of the european leg in Rome, U2.com confirms that U2 will be playing in South Africa in February 2011. That means back down there 13 years later !

U2 will play two shows only in the beautiful country. On Sunday, February 13th, 2011 in Johannesburg at the FNB Stadium and on Friday, February 18th, in Cape Town at Cape Town Stadium.

Tickets went on Sale on October 23rd and basically sold out in hours.

This is a very, very short leg of just two shows. Maybe the itinerary will also contain info for the South American leg. We'll see.

A new itinerary should be pressed in order to cover these shows but as far as I know PDFs are sent out to the crew with all the info they need to know for the tour....so I'm not sure wether the itinerary was ever printed or not.

Anyway, if this itinerary exists and I'm able to get a copy, I'll update this entry with some information.

U2 Zooropa'93 Tour Rider

As U2 tours become bigger and more professional, technical specificactions also grow and the requests from the band, the management and the show itself are compiled in huge books like this one I'm gonna show on this entry. It contains all the information related to the Zooropa 93 tour.

I found all the information on an online aution so all I can provide are pictures and the information I can see on them. As the number and quality of the pictures is good enough, they are providing some interesting information.

The spectacular cover shows some images of the previous legs of the tour and a big Zooropa'93 logo right in the middle, surrounded by green stars. Official name of this book is Technical Outline.

The first thing we find once we open it is a plastic folder containing 7 b/w pictures of the stage and set construction. According to the seller most of them were taken at Sun Bowl Stadium in El Paso (TX).

First page on the huge book is a letter from Steve Iredale that reveals that it was issued on March 26th 1993 and that there were some technical rehearsals in Cardington Hall in Bedford, England.

As Steve informs on his letter, if additional details and specifications became available they would be sent out to everybody involved.

Next page I'm showing is detailing part of the U2 staff for the Zooropa tour. Apart from the band, some of the people involved in that 1993 tour are still working for U2. Others have been getting off the U2 train. Sheila Roche, Fintan Fitzgerald, Nassim Khalifa and the 3 security guys were working for the band for years but they left their place to new people.

Next page I could see is a compilation of the adresses of the companies involved in the tour. Principle Management Ireland and USA, U2 Accountants Ireland and USA, RMP London and others are listed on this page.

This incredible book does also contain all the requests and terms that any promoter had to agree in order to get U2 play in his city. This page shows terms related to who would be able to take decissions from the purcharser's side and also everything related to staging.

Next page contains everything related to security. All details should be provided in advance to U2 management. Number of persons and positions, passes issued, everybody should be wearing some kind of uniform, water has to be distributed to those people in the first rows,....

This book is also covering everything related to Doctors, Police Escort, Runners, Reception and Catering.

A throat specialist has to be available for the day of the show, Police scort only on request, also three runners available for the production staff,.....

Catering will need one runner with a van and 4 people who "will only be able to watch the show if their job is completed". They should also be aware that their job would "basically be washing up".

There is also a page dedicated to Tour Manager, Accountant and Principel Management Offices requests.

The most interesting for us on this page are U2 Dressing Rooms details. They have to be as close as possible together, never near to food preparation and serving areas and the most important: "There must be showers in the dressing room area. No shower - No show"

Details about decoration and furniture in dressing rooms are also provided. Highest standard furnishing and decoration are a must.

1 Refrigerator (Clean and working), 12 bottles of wine and 12 tall glasses should be placed in the dressing room.

About the wardrobe, 2 full length mirrors and a small table for make up are also needed.

The book is also including many stage plans with all the measures and technical specifications needed to build the massive Zooropa show.

Definitelly an amazing and very interesting book to have, part of U2 story...part of modern music story.

U2 360º Tour Leg 7 US 2011

After Bono's surgery in Munich, the 3rd leg of the 360º that had to start in Salt Lake City on June 3rd 2010 was postponed until summer 2011. So European leg was now the 3rd leg and these "new dates north american leg" became the 6th one after the ROW dates announcement and the final addition of 2 concerts in South Africa for February 2011.

On July 13th 2010, U2.com confirms the final dates for this 4th Leg that will visit Canada and the United States from May to July 2011. Opening show will be held at Invesco Field in Denver on May 21st 2011 and the tour initially had end at Minneappolis TCF Bank Stadium on July 23rd.

On September 21st 2010 a show in Mexico City is added for May 14th 2011 so this becomes the first show of this 5th leg. Once this mexican show was sold out, a second date was added for May 15th.

On February 1st 2011 U2.com announced an additional and final North American show in Moncton (Canada) on July 30th 2011.

As far as I know only a Crew itinerary was pressed to cover this final leg of 360º.

This book cover from the LOAD IN Day at Azteca Stadium in Mexico (May 8th) to the day after the end of the tour at Moncton's Magnetic Hill (July 31st).

Two double rehearsal sessions were already planned when the tour started for Mexico on May 9th&10th and Denver on May 19th and 20th.

Also a very special day was planned on their agendas. That was June 24th , Glastonbury show day.

As it had also happened on the previous legs the crew was divided in 3 different groups (Blue Steel, Red Steel and Green Steel) and the books details the trip plans for the 3 of them.

At the end of the leg a big crew party was held for which the management printed out dollar bills with the band, management and crew member faces on them. I have created a special entry to cover this curious items.

U2 360º Tour Leg 4 Australia&N.Zealand 2010

U2.com confirmed on August 22nd 2010 that the band would visit New Zealand and Australia before the end of 2010. So after the European leg and months before their return to the US, the band will take some time to travel down under.

Starting on November 25th 2010 in New Zealand the leg would also include 4 dates in Australia. After almost instant sold out sales new dates were added in every city so the ROW leg becomes a 10 shows tour.

If we check previous U2 tours this leg should also include concerts in South America and Japan but it didn't happen this time so this was a leg of 10 shows only.

A new itinerary should be pressed in order to cover these shows but as far as I know PDFs are sent out to the crew with all the info they need to know for the tour....so I'm not sure wether the itinerary was ever printed or not.

Anyway, if this itinerary exists and I'm able to get a copy, I'll update this entry with some information.

U2 360º Tour Leg 3 Europe 2010

What had to be 360º 4th leg, became the 3rd leg due to Bono's back injury and US dates being postponed till summer 2011.

After a few weeks of high expectation about this european leg, U2.com finally confirms on July 13th that the band will be in Torino and the tour will open on August the 6th as expected.

So, this leg will travel across Europe in a total of 22 shows, 13 countries and first ever appearances in Russia and Turkey.

In terms of itinerary books, this leg should have a new book with a 360º design cover that I have not seen yet. U2 plane for this 3rd leg of 360º has the "Let me in the sound" sentence on it so if they follow the same rule they did on the two previous legs this should be the sentence on the itinerary book cover. This is just my guess as I have not seen any copy of it yet.

What I have already confirmed is that once again there is a crew itinerary book for this leg. As we saw on the US Leg 2 of this 360º tour entry, there was a band & management itinerary book with all the information they need and a second one that is printed for the rest of the people working on the leg. So at the moment I have seen the Crew Itinerary for this new european leg.

This crew itinerary book has plenty of information but nothing concerning the band plans (flights, hotels, schedule,...). Once again this is a way to protect this information by giving it only to those who really need it.

Crew got this itinerary on a pdf file but also a printed version was handed to them later on.

U2 Love comes to town tour 1989 (Japan Itinerary)

As I said on the previous entry, having found specific Australia, New Zealand and Europe itineraries a final one containing only the Japanese dates information should be around.

I never saw it not even a picture but it's quite obvious that it should exist so I'll be after it and if I ever found it, information will be updated.

Japanese leg of Lovetown tour took from November 11th to December 1st 1989, visiting only Yokohama, Tokyo and Osaka in order to offer a total of 6 shows.

I cannot offer more details as at the moment I never saw a copy of this book but it has for sure to exist.

U2 360º Tour Leg 3 US (Postponed dates)

Starting on June 3rd 2010, U2 had planned a new leg for the 360º tour that after opening in Salt Lake City would travel along the USA and Canada in a total of 16 shows.

Full leg was postponed on May 25th after Bono was injured on his back and had surgery in Munich. On July 13th 2010, U2.com announced the re-scheduled north american dates for summer 2011.

In terms of itinerary books this means that the ones for this 3rd leg are now useless and a new one should be printed for these new 2011 dates. So if the itineraries for this cancelled leg had already been printed , 360º tour will have, at the moment, 4 legs and 5 itineraries.

No news about this book, no clue if it was printed. Maybe it was but it never went to the hands of the crew as the tour was cancelled before most of them arrived to Salt Lake City.
I cannot offer more details as at the moment I never saw a copy of this book.

U2 360º Tour Leg 2 US 2009

After 25 shows in Europe, U2 360º was ready to hit North America. A leg of 20 concerts will have U2 in the US and Canada for September and October'09. Later on, U2.com announced new legs both in North America and Europe for 2010.

Itinerary book for this leg was pretty similar in terms of design to the European one but this time "Running down the road like loose electricity", a phrase from Breathe, was used on the cover.

As it happened also on the Vertigo tour itinerary books, some colours where used on this book pages so if you see or have one with pages completelly B/W I'm sorry but it's a fake.

Many fake copies of this itinerary were in fact sold on Ebay during and after the tour with colour cover but completely black and white pages.

A beautiful colour page showing the U2 plane design was included in the book. You can now compare fake versus original under these lines.

Another way to compare original versus fake is the spiral bound. As you can see on the previous couple of pictures, they are also different.

Back to the content of the itinerary, a "Tower of Babel" page with some words from Fritz Lang's "Metropolis" can also be found.

Before the first night of this leg, band and management were in NY and they flew to Chicago on September 10th. They had a rehearsal session on that evening and also on the 11th before they opened the tour on the 12th.

Twelve years after cancelling Raleigh show in 1997, U2 fans there could finally see the band live on October 3rd 2009.

Between Dallas and Oklahoma shows, U2 spent some days off in Cancun. A few pictures from those holidays in Mexico could be found on the internet.

Once this tour leg was over, back to NY.....MTV show in front of Brandenburg gate in Berlin......and holidays until they meet again for the third 360º leg.

I have also known that there was a second itinerary for this leg. Apart from the one I'm showing above, a different book was specifically printed for the crew. So the band and the management people were using the one I just showed and the rest of the crew working on the tour were handed copies of this white one (picture shows front and back of the Crew book).

I think this is a way to protect the band information and keep it for a very few people only.

U2 360º Tour Leg 1 Europe 2009

Probably due to the album release delay, this tour surprised everybody by starting in Europe instead of the US.

Nou Camp stadium in Barcelona is the place where 360º tour will be rehearsed and off course seen for the first time.

As usual, itinerary book design was directly related to tour iconography. So the black front cover was printed with the "Infinity is a great place to start" sentence in the middle of it. That phrase is part of the song "No line on the horizon" lyrics as you all might know. It was also used on the plane that U2 customised for this first leg of the tour.

Even though the itinerary book is covering Rehearsals from June 28th the truth is that the band arrived on June 16th (Larry on the 17th) and they spent more than 2 weeks rehearsing in town before the opening show.

About Dress Rehearsals, according to the book U2 had planned two nights which are June 28th and 29th. It seems only the second of those nights was used as a Dress Rehearsal in front of a 500 people audience. They were Netjets guests and Amnesty International members.

About the crew, they had hotel rooms reserved from June 6th to July 3rd.

Once again, Nice was the U2 headquarter and they were travelling around Europe and back to the South of France from most of the european venues. Even after the 3rd Dublin show and the final one in Cardiff the band went back to Nice.

The shows list on the itinerary is exactly the same it finally was so nor final changes on dates neither on countries/cities.

A Tower of Babel page was included on the itinerary.

U2 thanks NASA and The International Space Station on the itinerary book. Now we all know why.

U2 Vertigo Tour Leg 4 R.O.W. 2006 (Final Dates)

Weeks after U2 had postponed the final dates of Vertigo tour, a new schedule was announced so fans from Australia, New Zealand and Japan could finally get ready to see their favourite band.

A final concert would took place in Honolulu as it was announced months before.

In terms of itineraries, I'm sure a book was printed with the information concerning those 13 final shows but I've never seen it, not even a picture on the internet.

So this is another big mystery in the U2 itineraries world. No idea about the content but also no idea on how the front cover was. Maybe they used the same design they had used before postponing these final shows......Who knows....

So if someone has got any information on this book and wants to share with us, it would be great !

U2 Vertigo Tour Leg 4 R.O.W. 2006 (Postponed dates)

Fourth and final Vertigo leg was scheduled for February to April 2006. Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Argentina, New Zealand, Australia, Japan and Honolulu where the final countries waiting to see Vertigo tour and U2 live.

As we all know part of these dates were postponed so plans had to be changed for the last 13 shows of the tour. If we consider this, we assume the information contained on this leg itinerary was only used for the first part of the leg and, as I said in a previous entry, I guess a second itinerary for those 13 shows had to be printed with updated information about the final and confirmed dates of the tour.

This time the front cover of the itinerary was similar but different enough to the rest of the itineraries of this tour. On this new design cover, V 4ROW was printed in white ink, being ROW a Rest of World abbreviation.

Once again, pages include a Vertigo logo this time in two different blue tones, red and white.

So...if you have one of these books and it's all in B/W it might be a fake.

About tour dates, South American part of this leg remained as it was printed on the book. Big changes came for the rest of the countries and not just because dates were postponed.....

This was the original plan for that final part of this leg: Auckland (2 shows), Brisbane, Melbourne (2), Adelaide, Sydney (2), Yokohama and Honolulu. A total of 10 shows.

Once the leg went ahead, the real itinerary was: Brisbane, Sydney (3), Adelaide, Melbourne (2), Auckland (2), Saitama (3) and Honolulu. So, different order and 3 more shows after adding 1 date in Sydney and 2 more in Japan after moving from Yokohama to Saitama.

Before the opening show in Monterrey, U2 rehearsed in Los Angeles on February 7th and attended the Grammy Awards at Staples Center on the 8th before flying to Mexico on the 11th. That same day they had planned to rehearse in Monterrey.

Once in Mexico city they recorded with Mary J.Blidge the video for "One" on February 17th.

After playing in Sao Paulo the group spent a few days off in Salvador, enjoying the Carnival with Gilberto Gil as we saw on TV or internet. Adam prefered to stay in the Sao Paulo area and join the rest in Santiago on February 25th.

After the shows in Buenos Aires, the book says that group and management left to various destinations. Next show was on March 17th but as I said that part of the leg was postponed. The rest of information on this itinerary was not used and most of it probably changed with the resume of the tour so I'm not gonna go deeper on that part.

The tour had to finish on April 8th. The truth is that Vertigo tour wasn't really over until December 9th'06 but Honolulu was kept as the final place Vertigo tour would visit.

U2 Vertigo Tour Leg 3 US 2005

After spending the summer on tour in Europe, a third leg was due to start in Toronto by mid September. This leg should cover Canada and the U.S. for about three months, before the tour heads to a ROW leg including South America and Oceania.

The itinerary for this leg has once again a black and red front cover with a white text on it. This time the text reads V 3USA.

This 3rd leg was starting at Toronto's Air Canada Centre on September 12th but the band had planned some rehearsals from the 9th to the 11th at the same venue. They landed in Toronto on the 9th and had a rehearsal planned for the same evening.

Once again most of the band spent a few days off in Cancun. They did the same on the 1st Leg of this tour and later on the 2nd Leg of 360º tour.

After the last show of this leg ,Portland Dec 19th, the group flew straight back to Dublin except Edge who stayed in the States.

U2 Vertigo Tour Leg 2 Europe 2005

Once again, summer means Europe for U2. So on June 2005 the Vertigo tour lands in Europe for a total of 32 concerts, starting in Belgium on June 10th.

Itinerary is very similar to the previous one. Black and red cover but this time the white text is "V 2Europe".

As I explained on a previous entry, Vertigo itineraries are printed in more than black and white ink.

At the top of each page a U2 Vertigo //2005 logo is printed in black, white an red.

According to the book, U2 were in Brussels on the 8th of June and rehearsed that evening and also on the 9th. I'm not sure if they really rehearsed both days.

On Monday June 13th U2 had a day off in Cologne and they had a show/interview on the german TV. This was already confirmed when the itinerary was printed. After that, they left Germany heading to the UK.

On July 2nd, Live 8 was held at London's Hyde Park. U2 had a gig in Viena but they wanted to be in London so, after their appearance on stage with Paul McCartney, they left for Viena. They were expected to arrive at 6:45 pm but it seems there was a delay on their trip to Austria and the concert was also delayed.

On August 3rd, U2 flew to Munich where they were playing that night. After the show, they flew out but this time from Nurnburg. According to the book their plane had to re-position from Munich to Nurnburg while they were on stage.

Once again Nice was the place where U2 spent most of their days off.

U2 Vertigo Tour Leg 1 US 2005

U2 decided to go back to stadiums and were on tour again in 2005.

The beginning of the tour was in a certain way postponed (a few first the first dates were cancelled/postponed) and the same happened to the final part of the tour that was visiting Oceania. We all know why this happened so I'm not gonna repeat it.

There were 4 different legs and 4 different itineraries can be found, even though I guess a fifth one had to be issued to update the final dates information.

First leg was as usual North America, where they played 29 concerts from March 28th in San Diego to May 28th in Boston.

About the itinerary for this leg, front cover is black and red, a very Vertigo election. Also printed on it we can find a big V with a 1USA text, both in white ink. This will be the design for most of this tour itineraries.

Also an interesting detail that is worth to mention: This is the first U2 itinerary book that is not printed 100% in Black & White inks. Other colours have always been used on front and back covers, but inner pages had always been completely B/W. From this itinerary some other inks are used also on the inner pages.

So, if someone is offering you a Vertigo or 360º itinerary and there is no colour (apart from the cover) it is probably a fake copy.

As you all might remember, before starting the Vertigo tour, U2 rehearsed in Mexico, Vancouver and Los Angeles. This first itinerary is covering from March 14th when Vancouver production began, to the end of this first leg.

It was on March 14th when U2 was inducted to the RNR Hall of Fame in New York city. Right after the ceremony they all flew to Toronto. They had planned to rehearse there until the 19th and meet again in L.A. where they had dress rehearsals between the 24th and the 27th.

Opening show was in San Diego on March 28th where they arrived that same day and went straight to the venue for soundcheck. A rehearsal was also planned for the 29th, between first and second Vertigo shows.

U2 spent a few days off in Mexico at the beginning of April, travelling from there to a few shows in the south of the States. They also took some holidays in Bahamas during this leg.

On May 28th, right after the final Boston show, the band flew out on a break until Brussels rehearsals for the european leg.

U2 Elevation Tour Leg 3 US 2001

The third and final Elevation tour leg will travel the US up and down once again. This is what they call "US Return Leg" as we can see on the cover of this itinerary book.

A very simple red cover includes also one picture per each U2 member in an image that recalls the 4 screens used on the tour.

According to the itinerary, tour should end at Los Angeles Staples Center on November 19th. The truth is that 8 more shows were added after the book had been printed. The last Elevation tour gig was finally in Miami on December 2nd.

Group and management arrived in the U.S. on October 7th and they were rehearsing on the 8th and 9th before opening the tour on the 10th.

This first show was broadcasted on internet.

This leg was right after September 11th but U2 decided to go ahead with their tour plans instead of cancelling their gigs. The result was a leg full of emotions and amazing feelings. The three Madison Square Garden shows were very special and plenty FDNY and NYPD tributes were held.

While in Los Angeles they used 3 different hotels.

U2 Elevation Tour Leg 2 Europe 2001

On July 2001 Elevation tour reaches Europe for a series of 33 shows all around the "old continent".

As the one I showed for the US, this leg's itinerary is also very simple in terms of design . Red cover with big U2 sign and a white "U2 Itinerary Europe" text together with a tiny switcase logo.

According to the book the three final shows on this leg (2 in Glasgow plus a 2nd concert at Slane Castle) were still TBA (To be announced).

U2 travel from their holiday houses to Copenhagen on July 6th, the same day of the european opening show.

Berlin, Torino and Slane Castle shows were the only outdoor nights of this tour. Some parts of the stage (mainly the heart) were modified in order to fit this new kind of venues.

Nice and London were the 2 cities where the band spent more time on this european leg.

U2 had planned to fly on helicopter for a rehearsal at Slane Castle on Friday August 24th but I'm not sure if it ever really happened.

On September 6th, once the tour was over, MTV Video Music Awards were held in NY so what they call Promotional Team flew to the US again to attend the awards gala. The band was included in that Team and they performed playing an Elevation/Stuck in a Moment meddley. After that , they all were officially on holidays.

U2 Elevation Tour Leg 1 US 2001

After the release of "All that you can't leave behind" at the end of 2000, U2 will be on tour again from March 2001.

Back on the road means this time also back to basics and the band decides to play only indoors (with a very few exceptions in Europe) using a very simple stage and show concept.

This simplicity will also affect the itinerary books design. This first leg book comes in a completely red front cover with the U2 Elevation case logo printed on black. A white text reads "Elevation tour itinerary first leg".

Again, as I haven't got this book in my hands I cannot give any additional details.

U2 Popmart Tour Leg 4 R.O.W. 1998

Already in 1998, Popmart was back on the road facing its 4th and final serie of concerts. A total of 15 shows that will visit Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Australia, Japan and South Africa from January 27th to March 21st.

Another very Popmart U2 picture was selected for the front cover of the new itinerary book, this time called U2 Popmart Itinerary ROW (Rest of the world). Mini popmart logos were added again to the cover.

Another interesting detail to notice is that after this final Popmart book, all U2 itinerary books will be using wire bound instead of spiral or ring bound. So, any books you might found for Elevation, Vertigo and 360º tours should come with wire bound. If they do not, they are probably fakes.

Two different versions of this book can also be found. The black and white version you see above and the colourfull version I'm showing next.

The only difference between both books is the back cover. B/W version is using the same design they used for the 2nd Northamerican itinerary but the Colour version uses the European itinerary back cover. Curious, isn't it?

According to the itinerary only 2 shows were planned for Buenos Aires so the 3rd one on February 7th was probably due to the high tickets demand. On the opposite a 2nd show in Santiago was planned for the 10th but they finally played only on the 11th.

Also a 2nd show at Tokio Dome was marked as TBA (To be announced) for the 6th of March but was never confirmed. While in Japan U2 and their management took the Bullet Train to travel inside the country.

Finally, the Capetown concert was not on the itinerary but it really happened on March 16th.

According to the book, even though the band was in Brazil 3 days before the first show, no rehearsals were in the agenda.

No details for the trip from Japan to South Africa were confirmed when the book was printed but once the tour was over they all were departing home from Johannesburg on March 22nd.

U2 Popmart Tour Leg 3 USA 1997

After the 2nd leg ended in Tel Aviv on September 30th, U2 and crew had a few more than 20 days off before they had to meet again to resume the Popmart tour.

As usual U2 was back to North America after the summer tour in Europe and a new itinerary was printed.

As I explained when talking about the european itinerary, two different versions of this new itinerary can be found. Basically the same cover that sometimes is printed on full colour and sometimes on B/W.

A huge U2 Popmart USA logo and the Popmart Arch are on the cover together with 3 mini logos also used on the tour merchandising (POP - Lemon - Trolley). On the back cover, little pictures of the band on stage, taken during one of the concerts of the previous legs.

After arriving in Toronto on October 24th , a dress rehearsal is planned for October 25th, one day before the opening show at the Skydome.

MTV Awards are once again in the middle of a Popmart Leg so U2 had to jump back to Europe to be at the MTV Europe Music Awards in Rotterdam to rehearse on November 5th, show on the 6th and then back to the US to continue with the tour in St. Louis on the 8th.

I'm sure you all remember the band opening his show on MTV the same way they were doing on tour, walking to the stage surrounded by the crowd and playing an amazing live version of MOFO.

On December 12th, once the tour was over, the band flyes back home where they land on the 13th.

Once again two pages with an advance version of the 1998 dates are included on this itinerary book.

Before the end of this leg, the Crew got some A4 sheets including detailed information regarding the Mexican dates of this leg and the dates planned for 1998.

Funny to read things like "No tickets available for either Mexico show - don't even ask..."

"Rumors are rife about loosing equipment" and advising the crew to take to SouthAmerica only what they really need.

According to those A4 sheets, there was a possibility for second shows in Sydney and Tokyo ....and Capetown was not on schedule yet.

Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Australia, Japan and South Africa are waiting for U2 !!!

U2 Popmart Tour Leg 2 Europe & Near East 1997

After closing the first north american leg of Popmart, the tour was due to arrive in Europe for the summer.

Once again, POP design is used also for the itinerary and the cover is showing a picture of the band that was later used for the MOFO promo cd-single. On the picture, big "Popmart Itinerary" text, a little Popmart logo and a strip that includes a few pictures of the band (also used on the tourbook).

A strange thing happens with this and some other Popmart itineraries. I have found books with the colour front cover and other copies with a black and white printed on a green/yellow/blue cardboard front cover.
It happens with the 2nd, 3rd and 4th leg itineraries so I think both versions are 100% legit.

As this is a real itinerary book (not an advance book) we find quite more information about the tour plans.

Everybody was in Rotterdam on July 15th waiting for the band to arrive the next afternoon for some TV and press meetings. On the 17th there were a couple of rehearsals (Late afternoon and evening).

Once again Belfast show is not on the book so this confirms it was a final addition. Also between Edinburgh and Paris, on September 4th, U2 were in NY for the MTV Awards.

A final surprise can also be found on the book. The strong rumour about a show in Giza Pyramids in Egypt was more than a rumour. The concert was not confirmed but was included as a final show for this leg, expected for October 3rd. It would have been amazing to see the Popmart stravaganzza right in front those amazing ancient pyramids....kind of Las Vegas situation.

International phone codes are once again included on the book.

Also two final pages show a list of the USA 3rd leg shows confirmed to that point. The leg should start in Toronto on October 26th and a quick jump to Europe for the MTV Europe Music Awards was expected. Check 3rd leg of Popmart entry for more information.

Some copies of this itinerary book came with a couple of information sheets attached to the cover. Theses pages basicaly contain useful phone numbers for the crew detailed per city. I'm showing a couple of pictures of those pages below.

U2 Popmart Tour 1997 Europe Advance Itinerary

As they did before starting the first leg of Popmart, another Advance itinerary was issued in order to prepare the second and european part of the tour.

The cover is basically the same we saw for the 1st advance itinerary but this time Europe and the dates (July 18th-August 31st) were on the cover instead of US and its dates. Obvious.....

This book comes with wire bound instead of the usual spiral bound. The same happened with the US Advance itinerary we saw.

As I said, this is a book printed in order to give some information in advance and that's why it's only covering part of the dates they finally played in Europe.

It includes all dates from Rotterdam on July 18th to Dublin on August 31st. After that Dublin show, U2 played 11 additional dates.

Belfast show at Botanic Gardens on August 26th was not included on this advance itinerary so I gues it was a "final addition".

Nor info related to production set up neither rehearsals details were included on this book.

There is also a page that includes a map of Europe with detailed information of european time zones and what countries are included in each zone. This is a useful information for the tour staff, specially if we think that many of them are not european.

There is also a "Tour at a glance" section of 4 pages that details were every crew team should be on every single date of the tour. This section is already including the 11 final dates of this leg that are not included on the detailed "date to date" pages.

U2 Popmart Tour Leg 1 US 1997

The first "real" itinerary issued for the Popmart tour is covering the 30 shows of this North American leg.

This time the cover is very Popmart, with the tour logo and a huge supermarket trolley topped with the word POP in red. Another interesting detail is that for this book the spiral bound was blue instead of black. I have seen a few copies of this itinerary and they all come with this blue bound.

From the original concerts list included in the itinerary some of them were cancelled or never confirmed. As we all know Raleigh was cancelled in order to fix the screen damaged for the strong rain in Washington a couple of days before. A tentative concert in Syracuse on June 6th never went on sale.

Same happened with a second show in Philly on June 9th and a final leg concert in Boston on July 5th.

About number of people involved on this tour leg, U2 and management were 29 plus a crew of 137 people.

Production Rehearsals were expected to go from April 16th to 23rd with a Dress Rehearsal on the 24th.

The band had a confirmed hotel from the 14th so they probably arrived a couple of days before the first rehearsal.

Once again cars were used to travel between NY and Philadelphia.

A US time zones and phone codes map and another for Canada are included in the itinerary. Also an international phone codes list can be found at the end of the book.

U2 Popmart Tour 1997 USA Advance Itinerary

After the massive ZOO TV no one expected to see a bigger U2 show but we all were wrong. U2 took a huge supermarket on the road under the Popmart name.

Once again they travelled all around the world on 4th legs from USA to South Africa, starting in 1997 and closing the tour on March 1998.

Four legs would mean a minimum of four itinerary books but this time U2 management also released some Advance Itinerary books. I have found 2 different Advance itineraries so, as far as I know there are 6 books from this tour, maybe more.....

So I would have to begin the Popmart entries with the Advance itinerary that was issued for the first american leg of Popmart.
It comes with a black front cover that includes Popmart logo and Advance Itinerary text printed in orange. US First Leg and the dates from April 25th to July 7th can be read under that text.

Also to be noticed that this book comes with wire bound instead of the usual spiral bound.

From the original concerts list included in this book, three concerts were never confirmed (June 4th at Giants Stadium, 9th in Philadelphia and a final concert in Boston on July 4th). Those three shows won't even appear on the 1st leg itinerary.

In addition, U2 played at Tibetan Freedom Concert on June 7th which was probably not confirmed when printing the book.

Also some stadiums that appear on the list were later changed. It happens for exemple in cities as Texas, Clemson, Ohio or Oakland.

At the end of the book a few blank pages for taking notes are left.

U2 ZOO TV Tour Leg 5 R.O.W. 1993 (Zoomerang/New Zooland/Japan)

Fifth and final ZOO TV legs will travel around what they call Rest of the World (ROW) visiting Australia, New Zealand and Japan. From November 12th to December 10th, 10 concerts will complete this final leg of this long tour.

In terms of itinerary book, I knew it had to exist and I finally found it.

As you can see, the cover is using a very Zooropa image of the band which was also used on tour t-shirts and other memorabilia.

A big ZOO TV logo on it with the names the tour was receiving on every different country this leg was covering (Zoomerang-New Zooland- ZOO TV Japan) can also be seen. A very beautiful cover indeed.

Back cover shows once again the logo U2 created for this leg of the tour. It was used also on the tour passes for this specific final ZOO TV leg.

Paul Oakenfold as a D.J. and Morleigh Steinberg as Dancer/Choreographer are part of this leg staff.

U2 leaves Dublin on November 7th to Bangkok (via London) where they stop for a breather before landing in Melbourne on the 9th. It seems they like Bangkok....they also had planned to spend a few days off in this city during the Love Town tour visit to this part of the world.

Their plan includes a possible rehearsal in the evening of Nov. 10th and an all day rehearsal on the 11th.

As I said this leg will travel through Australia, New Zealand and Japan for about a month and only 10 shows but it will be important because the official video release from this tour will be recorded during this final leg.

The book includes 2 pages with the ZOO TV Broadcast Team and their specific itinerary in order to prepare the double shooting planned for the Sydney shows. As we all know Stuart Morgan replaced Adam Clayton on the first show and 2nd night was broadcasted and shooted to be released on video some months later.

Once they finished the tour in Tokyo, they left to Dublin on December 11th the day after the final ZOO TV show ever.

U2 ZOO TV Tour Leg 4 Europe 1993 ZOOROPA

With the tour back in Europe, this time in Stadiums, a new name was ready for this ZOO TV 4th Leg. The name was ZOOROPA and new iconography was used, related to the european union.

So, kind of a Zooropa flag was created similar to the recently born Europe flag. Twelve yellow stars were surrounding the Z'93 red sign. It was used on the front cover of this leg's itinerary book.

On the back cover Zooropa baby, several TVs and Satellite Dishes together with the yellow stars once again.

This is a very thick book as it has to cover information from May 1st to August 29th, including Set-up and Rehearsals plus a total of 44 shows.

Crew was arriving in Rotterdam on May 1st and were joined by U2 on the 6th. The band went straight from the airport to Feyenoord Stadium for the first rehearsal.

Travelling information on this book might not be accurate. As you all might remember, U2 were recording the Zooropa album during the beginning of this leg, so they decided to jump to their Dublin studio right after some of the european shows and work in there until the next concert.

While in Switzerland they used swiss roads and for their show in Nijmegan (The Netherlands) U2 flew helicopter from Rotterdam.

Zooropa tour ends with 2 amazing nights at Dublin's RDS Stadium on August 27th and 28th.

As you can see on the next four pictures, it seems that a very few number copies of this book came in an exclusive embossed black leather cover.

U2 ZOO TV Tour Leg 3 US 1992 Outside Broadcast (PART 2)

In order to give the crew all the detailed information for the last part of this 3rd leg a new itinerary book was printed.

Same cover as the previous one with a "Part 2" sign on it, this book covers from September 15th to November 7th. This means that there is no information about the 7 final outside broadcast shows (San Diego, Las Vegas, Anaheim and 4 nights in Mexico) that were for sure added once the itinerary had already been printed.

Crew for this third leg was as massive as the show itself. Band and management were 28 people but crew went up to 182 people involved.

As usual, at the beginning of this book, a list of the days on the road and the plans for every one of those days is included as you can see on the pictures.

In addition, a calendar with the same information was also included in order to have all the information at just a glance.

There is a break between September 25th (Show in Atlanta) and October 3rd (Show in Miami). Plans for management were to spend those days off in Miami enjoying the nice Florida weather and hotels.

At the end of the book, some new children drawings are shown.

I'm not going to show those drawings for respect to the band/management and their families. I find this stuff too private and personal.

U2 ZOO TV Tour Leg 3 US 1992 Outside Broadcast

After the european leg, ZOO TV tour goes back to the States with a new concept. ZOO TV was big but U2 moves now to something massive by taking their show from indoors to big stadiums.

Purple, pink and orange are the colours of the front cover of the new itinerary book. Satellite dish will be used not only on this cover but also on tour t-shirts and other memorabilia stuff. ZOO TV will be renamed Outside Broadcast on this 3rd leg.

On August 1st U2 is again in America for a week of Production Rehearsals in Hershey before heading to NY where the tour resumes with 2 nights at Giants Stadium.

As they did sometimes in Europe, U2 will use the bus to travel from NY to Philadelphia.

Great drawings by Bono and Edge daughters and also by some of the management members kids were included on the final pages of this itinerary.

Also a couple of press articles are shown.

This book "only" contains detailed information covering until September 18th even though this third leg wasn't over until November 25th. A second book for this leg of the tour would be released.

U2 ZOO TV Tour Leg 2 Europe 1992

After 32 shows in the States, ZOO TV tour hits Europe with an opening show at Palais Omnisports De Bercy (Paris) on May 7th 1992.

As you can see on the picture, front cover of this leg itinerary book is also very ZOO TV. Apart from the tour logo and the Achtung Baby U2 sign three other ZOO TV signs are shown on the book cover. The trabant, the star and the ZOO baby were also used on the tour, the tour program, tshirts and tour memorabilia, video screens and many other things related to this U2 era.

Milano dates were planned for February 20th and 21st but they had to be postponed to 21st and 22nd due to logistical problems.

Wien show was the first outdoors zoo show ever. Later on the band decided to play outdoors for the following tour legs.

The name of Christina Petro can be found on the U2 crew list of this tour. She was the bellydancer who shared the stage with U2 during Mysterious Ways.

U2 arrived in Paris on February the 6th just one day before the opening show. No rehearsals were planned but a soundcheck on the 7th right before the show.

European leg ended in Manchester on June 19th, 25 shows after the opening night. Right after the Manchester show, the band flew out to Dublin for some days off until the 3rd leg.

U2 ZOO TV Tour Leg 1 US 1992

Back on the road with a new sound, new shows concept and off course new itineraries.

ZOO TV travelled around the world on 5 different legs so I assume there are no less than 5 different itinerary books. Knowing that there are in fact 2 different itineraries for one of the legs, there has to be 6 books if not more.

The tour started in the US with an opening show on February 29th in Lakeland (FL) ending almost 2 months later in Vancouver. This first itinerary and its cover are obviously influenced by the ZOO TV madness. Colourful front and back covers with "Everything you know is wrong" message and artwork pretty similar to the one they chose for the "The Fly" single.

Inside, three different pages with trabants on it and one with a Keith Haring draw in order to make everybody breath ZOO TV air.

A piece of paper was inserted in order to update a phone number that was wrong adding the funny "Everything you read is most probably wrong" sentence.

Also a curious reminder to everybody: If someone doesn't pay an "extras bill" as leaving the hotel he will be charged double the invoice amount.

Crew was already in the States on Feb 15th waiting for the band that arrived in Florida on the 19th in order to rehearse between the 20th and the 28th both included.

After the final date, no details are confirmed concerning the return journey. Next stop, ZOO TV european indoors leg.

U2 Love comes to town tour 1989 (Japan & Europe Itinerary)

This is the last itinerary I have known for the Lovetown tour. It is covering last Japanese show and European concerts so this might be the final one. My guess is that having Aussie, NZ and European detailed information in 3 different books, a japanese itinerary might be around.

It comes in a standard cardboard cover in order to protect the colourfull cover we saw in the rest of Lovetown itineraries. In this case that second cover is exactly the same as the one used for the "full tour itinerary".

Data is covering from December 1st , showday at Osaka Castle Hall, to January 1st, when BBKing and his band and crew had to leave Dublin to return home.

Once again the info on the itinerary isn't 100% what finally happened. The truth is that some of the shows had to be postponed so after Dublin, the group travelled to The Netherlands for a final "4 in a row" set of concerts in Rotterdam.

The day after Osaka concert, the band and irish crew are returning home for the break while BB and his people are flying to L.A.

On December 11th U2 is on the road again, travelling to Paris where they are playing that night. BB and his group had arrived the day before.

U2 not only uses the planes on this part of the tour. For the shows in Dortmund they travelled from Paris to Dusseldorf by coach, a 4 hours trip. One more hour was needed to go from Dusseldorf to Dortmund, where they played 3 shows.

With the final show expected for the last day of 1989, that day page on the book reads "Will definitelly go into 1990". A second support act was expected to join BBKing and U2 but as far as I know it never happened to be.

After that night at the Point Depot and the four final shows in Rotterdam, this amazing tour was over. Last show was finally on January 10th.

U2 Love comes to town tour 1989 (NZ Itinerary)

I love this itinerary book. It's a nice one!

With the NZ map on the left side, the tour logo is this time on the rigt side of the book cover. The Silver Fern Flag and the texts NZ ITINERARY and NOVEMBER 1989 are also on this beautiful collage front cover.

A picture of each member of the band is included on the "Cole Productions Welcomes U2 to New Zealand" page that is the first one we find as we open the book.

The list of contents includes New Zealand facts and figures, tour schedule, accomodation, maps of each of the cities of the tour, daily itineraries, things to do, restaurants, clubs and other useful information.

U2 arrived in Auckland on October 30th but they won't travel to Christchurch (where the first show was scheduled for November 4th) until the 3rd. Before leaving Christchurch, a press conference is held at the airport with BB King joining U2.

After four shows in New Zealand, U2 leaves the country on November 14th to return to Sydney where they will play 3 more shows at Entertainment Centre (They had already played 5 nights at the same venue in October).

No more information was included on this itinerary as it was for New Zealand shows only.

In addition to the "full tour itinerary" some other books were issued later in order to update or add some information useful for the Lovetown crew. I know about the existance of a minimum of three different books covering aussie, kiwie and european parts of the Lovetown tour. Detailed Japan information might be on a separate book.

Unfortunatelly I don't own a copy of the australian itinerary even though I found on the internet the picture that I'm showing.

This is the only book that is not including yellow as the main colour on the cover. The rest of the front cover is very similar to the one issued for the New Zealand leg of the tour.

I recently knew that a friend of mine has got a copy of this book so information and new pictures might be uploaded soon.

U2 Love comes to town tour 1989 (Full tour Itinerary)

After the end of The Joshua Tree tour and the release of Rattle&Hum, U2 went back on the road in 1989 with a tour of only 47 shows. This time USA was left out of the tour itinerary as they just played in Australia, New Zealand, Japan and a few countries in Europe. Amazing setlist changes and BBKing support night after night were the highlights of this tour the fans know as "Lovetown tour".

I have found at least 4 different itineraries for this short tour. Amazing !!

This is the first one I want to talk about as it contains information of basically all the tour. Yellow front cover with huge tour logo and 4 parts of the tour listed on the right side of it.

This time short tour means a short list of management and crew people (15 + 26). We have to add them a total of 11 "BB King people" including BB himself, his band, a manager, a road manager and a valet responsible.

I got the chance to get this book signed by Bono and Edge in front of their hotel in Paris just hours before their concert at Stade de France on September 18th 2010. This is the 2nd itinerary book I ever got a member of the band to sign. First one was the European The Joshua Tree Itinerary book that Adam signed for me in Barcelona on July 1st 2009.

Back to the book we were talking about , a World Time Zones map is included in the itinerary book this time.

This itinerary is covering the long period from September 9th to December 31st but we can read on its pages that european section of the tour had not finalised when it was printed so some of the information concerning timings and hotels might change.

Crew arrived in Sydney on September the 4th and worked on the production until U2 and the management people landed on the 9th to start rehearsing on the 10th. BB King and his group did not arrive in Australia until the 14th & 15th on two different flights.

On Monday September 18th with they all already in Perth, the first of three full production rehearsals was scheduled at Entertainment Centre.

After Australia U2 flew to New Zealand and Japan before heading to Europe. Their plans were to spend about 10 days in Bangkok between New Zealand and Japan legs and once the japanese tour was over fly back to Dublin on December 2nd '89.

Years later I found this page on internet where the tour management informs the crew on some changes to the itinerary. In this case it was hotel changes for Sydney and Christchurch.

I will go deeper on those legs when blogging about the other Lovetown itineraries.

U2 The Joshua Tree Tour Leg 3 Itinerary USA SEPT-DEC 1987

Third and final leg of The Joshua Tree tour means a new itinerary for the tour staff. This time blue is the chosen colour for a cover pretty similar to the previous book from this tour.

It's curious that the title on the three books we saw from this tour reads "The Joshua Tour" forgeting about the word Tree.

On September 7th, band and management leave for the States, where the first show of this 3rd leg is planned for the 10th at Nassau Colisseum in NY after a production rehearsal on the 9th.

This time the group is growing to 26 people involved in Band and Management and more than 70 people in Crew.

During the first part of this 3rd leg, the band rented some houses on Long Island, as they already explain on "U2 by U2". Those houses are used as a base for about a month, travelling to many shows from there. For the shows at Madison Square Graden they flew to NY on helicopter.

After leaving the houses, they spent some days in Chicago, San Francisco and Los Angeles travelling to many shows from those locations.

According to the itinerary the tour ends on December 12th and they all are back home on the 13th. The truth is that they added two shows at Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe on December 19th and 20th that were filmed for the "Rattle&Hum" movie.

Final pages on the itinerary book include some Pizza Restaurant adverts and a USA Mileage and Driving Time map.

This was the final leg for The Joshua Tree tour so no more itineraries from that succesfull tour should exist.

U2 The Joshua Tree Tour Leg 2 Itinerary Europe 1987

Only 8 days after they have returned to Dublin once the 1st leg had finished, U2 and their management were flying to Rome. It was the first stop of the European leg of the Joshua Tree tour and a new itinerary book was handed to everyone working on the tour.

Front cover of this book was basically the same that the american one had but orange was the selected colour in this case. Here you can see the picture of the front cover and also the back cover which was signed by Adam Clayton outside Nou Camp stadium in Barcelona on July 2nd 2009 as he was leaving after the recording of some close shots for the "I'll go crazy if I don't go crazy tonight" video.

It was on May 26th 1987 when U2 landed in Rome and they went directly to the Stadio Flamino for the soundcheck.

U2 not only played stadiums on this leg but they also played in front of 5.000 or 6.000 people audiences in some european cities. Worth to mention is Paris, where they played in front of 6.000 people on June 15th to return about 20 days later for a show in front of 80.000 people.

Tour personnel was already growing. Management group was 17 people while crew included more than 60 people.

This european leg was organized in a way that the band could return home to spend a couple of days with their families basically after each concert. So U2 were running away from the stadium while the audience was still cheering them, got on the plane and slept at home. Usually the same day of the next show they flew out from Dublin to the next destination of the tour.

The final show of the european leg was in Cork, on August 7th and even though it is only a 40 minutes flight from Dublin the band decided to arrive in Cork one day before the show and stayed there until the day after the show. They probably partied out to celebrate the end of the leg as they usually do.

I found once this picture on internet that makes me think that some people got also a leather case to protect this itinerary book. As you can see it had gold letters detailing not only U2 and the tour leg but also the name (SUPERMICK) and the area where this guy worked (LIGHTS).

U2 The Joshua Tree Tour Leg 1 Itinerary USA SPRING 1987

Once The Unforgettable Fire Tour finished we had to wait for a couple of years to see U2 again on tour. It was in 1987 when they hit the road again with their amazing The Joshua Tree tour.

Three legs of the tour means in this case 3 different itinerary books, and this one I'm showing is the first one.

I have seen two different front covers for this book as you can see on the pictures.

It apparently contains information from April 1st 1987 when a Production Rehearsal took place at A.S.U. Events Centre in Tempe, Arizona to May 17th when the tour was over and they all returned home from New Jersey.

Even though first pages are listing tour events from April 1st, once you take a look at the book you find also information for the previous week.

The band arrived in L.A. on March 24th and the advice on the book for that day is "Acclimatise onesself and accept culture shock syndrome".

It was on that week, on the 27th, when the band recorded "Where the streets have no name" video on the rooftop of a liquor store in downtown Los Angeles. Click on the picture to see some of the information about the video shoot.

Production rehearsals began on March 28th and took place until April 1st, just one day before the opening show.

The group considered as "Group and management" was only 16 people. The rest of staff, considered "Crew Personel" was 38 people.....nothing compared with more recent tours number of people.

On Sunday May 17th U2 and their management left JFK airport to Dublin and they had a few days off before the start of the European Leg.

U2 Unforgettable Fire Tour Rider

Well.....this is probably not the best book to start with. I'm saying this basically for a couple of reasons. First of all because I don't own it. Second and last because this was more a compilation of rules and conditions that an itinerary book.

This is in fact a tour rider and not an itinerary book. And what is a tour rider? This little book includes specifications on stage design, sound & lighting demmands, as well as an artist's wish list that goes from transportation and billing to dressing room accommodations and what food and drinks he wants to find when he arrives at the venue.

My plan is to follow a chronological order so as this is the older one I ever heard about it has to be the first one I have to talk about.

As you can guess from the title and also from the cover picture I'm showing this book belongs to The Unforgettable Fire tour. I saw it up for auction on Ebay around November 2007 as "U2 Official Tour Rider" and the final price was about 110 Euros.

According to the text on the front cover it belongs to 1985 so there was probably one or maybe more itineraries/riders for this tour as it started in 1984.

Even though I don't have a copy of this on my shelf, I have a picture of one of the pages. As it is kind of an index, I can have an idea about the book content.

As I said before the content is a list of requirements that any The Unforgettable Fire Tour show should accomplish. I can read on the index chapters related to Cancellation terms, Billing, Support bands, Merchandising, Security, Food, Laundry, Garbage, Limousines and other stuff.

All of it interesting information in order to understand how a U2 show works and to know all the details to be solved before our favourite band hits the stage.

Itinerary books?

Some of you are probably wondering what the hell an itinerary book is. If you have never heard about it you will have to read this first post before going deeper into my blog.

Any music band has got itinerary books while on tour. It's kind of the bible for any member of the tour staff. They all would be completely lost without his copy of the itinerary book.

The itinerary is kind of a notebook that contains very detailed information about the tour they are working on. Their pages include plenty of data: Schedule, Tour personnel, Timetable, Hotels, Phone numbers, Flight times and many other interesting things they all need to know during their time on the road.

As this is only for tour staff, books are printed in a very limited number so they are not easy to collect. Every single person in the tour staff gets his own itinerary copy. As they are a useful tool for the staff, itinerary books are used on daily bases so it is not rare that they are showing some different level of wear after the tour is over.

There is usually a new itinerary issued for each leg of the tour and sometimes even local itineraries are printed for a specific show or for a mini tour like UK or Scandinavian part of a tour.

One important thing is that the information on the itinerary books is not 100% final and some things might have changed once on the road. Some final changes on travels, hotels or whatever are often decided after the itinerary is printed.

What I will try to compile on this blog is all those U2 itinerary books I have been collecting and also those I have maybe seen somewhere but I unfortunatelly don't own.

I would love you all to cooperate with your comments or information you might have, specially if you own one of those books missing in my collection.

I will only share general information about each book : a couple of pictures, tour or leg that the book belongs to, dates that the itinerary is covering, a couple of curious things I found in the book,....... but I will never share personal information from the books. So please don't ask me about where U2 slept last time they visited your town, if they flew out right after the show or any other kind of information I don't want to share.

You will also see that all pictures I show come with a watermark. This is just for "security" reasons. I don't want anybody to be ripped off on Ebay by someone selling a book that he doesn't really have. If he has it, he can take a picture of it instead of using this blog's pictures.
